The red version
is my newly painted 65. It was blue when I bought it in 1998 and needed a lot
of work. I still need to put the interior back in, but before I do, I am doing
some wiring mods to bring the car up a bit more. I just finished putting in
electric door locks, and I have an electronic cruise control I'm going to put
in. I also will be changing the headlight circuit to be relay controlled. At
the moment, I am making brackets to mount microswitches in place of the upper
back panel limit switch in the trunk. The old switch has been a problem for as
long as I've owned the car so the
time has come to do away with it. I also put in a hidden auxiliary
switch to open the trunk lid without having to get inside the car. Along
with the paint job, I had all of the outside chrome trim & bumpers
rechromed, new floor panels, and anything that looked like rust cut-out
andreplaced. The old paint job was pretty bad so the car was completely
stripped and epoxy primered before the crimson pearl paint was applied. It has
five coats of clear over the red. Though the car runs pretty good right now on
the original engine, I have another '65 390 engine that I got out of a junk
yard that I am rebuilding with a mild cam and an .040 overbore. I probably
won't change the engine until next year since I have so much other work to do
to just get the car back on the road. It will be a driver when its done
because I am proud to own and show it off. It got a lot of looks on the way
home from the body shop. Glad I found your web site dedicated to the
incredible '65. By the way I'm about 12 miles outside of St. Louis just across
the Mississippi in Illinois.
Regards,
Al Artimisi
