Bought this in 1986 when I was 24, as I had been
looking for specifically a red one for a while. I was attracted to the
Rangoon red, red interior, and white top combination because it was the one
pictured in the '65 Tbird brochure. Except this one had more options than
the one in the brochure. It was loaded. A/C, 6-way power windows (including
vents), speed control, dual power seats with recliner, correct spotlight,
correct AM-FM radio with front & rear speakers, Convenience package
(including power antenna, & door locks), spinner hubcaps, and
transistorized ignition (disconnected). The only obvious options it didn't
have were the side mouldings, which I was glad, as I thought they marr the
design, reverb radio system, and headlight dimmer. The only modification I
made was to replace the two 4-way power seat tracks with '66 tbird 6-way
tracks (and found a way to modify a driver's side 6-way
to a passenger side without buying any parts.) It did come with leather
interior, but the car was stored open in a chicken barn for 10 years before
I got it, and the leather was ruined... (I replaced it with an original red
vinyl interior until I can afford new leather. Paint, chrome, and engine
were completely redone including many NOS trim
pieces. I got very good at repairing the electric options, speed control,
and convertible top mechanism so I became the Southern NY chapter ITC tech
advisor. Now, 16 years later, and the first 4 using it as my everday car, it
still looks beautiful, but could use some detailing, maybe a paint
color coat (but its impossible to find an affordable painter that is
concerned about quality).
